Running Hot by Jayne Ann Krentz

Running Hot is the fifth book in the Arcane Society series by Jayne Ann Krentz. Grace Renquist is hiding from her past. Luther Malone is recovering from a gun shot wound. Both had messed up childhoods. Both are aura readers. Fallon Jones, head of Jones & Jones, a kind of psychic investigative team, sends Grace to Hawaii to profile a suspect's aura and figure out if he's the murderer they're looking for. Because Grace is inexperienced in the field, he sends Luther as her body guard. From the first time they see each other in the airport concourse, there's an instant connection. They're drawn to each other. The mission was supposed to be simple. Get in, profile the suspects aura, and go home. But they stumble onto an executive meeting for Nightshade, and evil psychic organization that Jones & Jones has been investigating and trying to shut down. Someone puts a hit on the suspect they're supposed to be profiling. Everything gets crazy from there. People are trying to kill Grace and Luther. Luther takes Grace to his apartment. She meets his friends, who are like family to him. His friends help protect Grace when someone comes after her. And bonds are created. There's a lot of adventure and suspense and love. I love a book where the characters' family lives are messed up but they go on to create their own definition of family. Their friends are their family. I can connect with those characters because my family unit is small and not all of our relationships are good. So my friends have become part of my family. In the end, good wins over evil and the characters live happily ever after together. It only took me two days to read it. I didn't want to put it down. It's one I would recommend.

Kill For Me by Karen Rose

Kill for me is the last in the Vartanian trilogy by Karen Rose. To understand this book and have it mean the most, you need to read the other two that connect with it (Die For Me and Scream For Me). Anyway. Susannah Vartanian, an Assistant District Attorney in New York City is discovered to be one of sixteen victims in the Richie Rich Rapes. Everything seems to connect with her brother Simon who ended up being a serial killer in Philadelphia in a previous book. Luke Papadopoulos is a special agent for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. He's taken off Internet Crimes to help Susannah's brother, Daniel, investigate the killings in Dutton. Dutton is the Vartanian's hometown and is where all the Richie Rich Rapes occured. The book takes you through the investigation of a human trafficking ring that connects with the rapists. There are some crazy twists. A lot of unexpected turns. Which is good. I love the unexpected in a book. Makes it so much better. Susannah has struggled in all her relationships and believes she can't have a normal one. Luke just hasn't found "the one". They're attracted to each other at first sight but Susannah fights it because she doesn't believe she's good enough for Luke. They fight their way through the emotional battles to be together while trying to figure out who's behind all the horrific crimes that have taken place. In the end, they triumph over one seriously evil villain. The author makes it possible for you to connect with the characters in a deep and meaningful way. I had tears well up in some spots because the emotion Susannah was going through was so intense that it leaped off the page and slammed into my chest. I have loved every book Karen Rose has written because they are so well written that I feel like I'm right there living the story with the characters. They feel like they're my friends and enemies. And I love all the creepy villains! I have a weakness for believable, creepy serial killers!

Intro

You know, I have this obsession with books. I read them, I buy them, and I even organize them. Which is saying a lot for me since I'm not the domestic or organizational type. I've been considering doing reviews for a while now. I figure since I read so much, why not share my experiences with the world. Or others who are like me. I have many books I could review right now but I want to take some time to consider which one to do first. It'll be an important one. So I'll be back.
